Burns in Infancy and Children




Abstract
During May 1963 to Apr. 1970; 254 burned patient were admitted Surgical Ward of Seoul National University Hospital. Among these patients, 113 were patients under the age of 15. Folio wing; results were obtained after -analysis of these pediatric burned patients. 1. Pediatric burned patient occupied 44% of all burned patient.
2. Seventy seven; percent of pediatric burned patients were under the age of 4 Only 10% of patients were in school age.
3. There was no statistical difference in seasonal or monthly variation in burned patient. 4. Over 90% of burns were due to hot liquid. Flame burn comprised only 10%. 5. About 40% of patients had burn shock at time of visit.
6. Evan¢¥s formula which contained more plasma was preferred treatment of fluid therapy.
7. About 25% of patients had burn sepsis, although some of them responded well to antibiotic therapy.
E. Over one forth of patient were dismissed from hospital despite inadequate healing only because of poor economical condition.
9. Total hespital day of the whole patient was 2024 days. Average hospital stay was 17.9 days (This is rather low value, for inadequately treated group is not excluded).
